So how did the world that is 'The Wild Side' come about?
Well, I'd like to say there was a plan, but that's sadly not the case. The concept of 'The Wild Side' sort of fell into place as an after thought, a year after I first wrote about it.
The Wild Side featured in a book by the same name, the second of Jack Brighton's publications. A certain Ralph Daley was the main character and narrator of the story. He's a member of The Wild Side - London's most debauched and exclusive gay BDSM club, where part of the book is based. Ralph is an Alpha male master who goes there to play. He's picked up a young lad called Barry who has no experience in BDSM but shows great interest when Ralph introduces him to the life. A night at The Wild Side proves to be a real eye opener for young Barry, and as a by-product spawned the series of books 'Tales from The Wild Side' based around the club and it's owner, Big Bad Angus McCloud.
But there was no mention of Angus, or any of his slave 'family' in the original book. Only the club and it's manager, Mr. Charles, were introduced. A picture was painted, which was later tweaked, but on the whole the club and it's activities were pretty much defined.
Here's how it was originally described...
The main room of the
club is arranged round a central stage with chairs and tables irregularly
interspersed around it and a variety of rugs for slaves to sit or kneel on should
their master choose. At the far end is a long drinks bar – no money is ever exchanged,
everything goes on account to be settled at the end of each month. To the left
and right are a number of play areas, both public in full view, and private
behind closed doors. Barry passed these with wide eyes and an open mouth –
there was plenty going on for him to see - a naked club slave bound to an
X-frame being whipped by a master using a cat of nine tails, another slave in a
swing being fucked at both ends, and a master feeding his slave fruit in a most
unorthodox manner. Barry almost stumbled as he furtively watched some of the
action, scarcely believing what he was seeing.
Ralph and Barry never featured again... but the club did, time and time again, with new characters being introduced through successive 'Tales from The Wild Side'. This blog will explain how it evolved... and continues to evolve with each new tale.
